Our History

CELEA -- formerly known as CETESOL -- was formed in 1984 at the TESOL convention in Houston. The group has met informally at every convention since then except for 1986.   The Christian Educators in TESOL Caucus (CETC) was officially organized in 1996 and held its first meeting at the 1997 TESOL convention in Orlando, Florida.  Then in 2008, CETC was reorganized to CELEA.

Our Mission

The Christian English Language Educators Association (CELEA) is composed of persons who have a common interest in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages, and who share a common belief in Jesus Christ.

Our Aims

  • To promote Christian reflection and scholarly research in this field

We support each other in:

  • Serving with integrity and faith wherever we teach, research or serve
  • Teaching in seminaries, Christian universities, and other schools
  • Building quality into church-based and other English language programs
  • Seeking to draw continually closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
